Lydia Joel (1914-1992), dancer, educator, editor, writer, and producer was best known for her work for Dance Magazine and on the faculty of the School of the Performing Arts in New York City. Joel graduated from New York University with a degree in English, but also pursued her interest in dance. Educator, choreographer, and dancer Bella Malinka taught at New York?s School of the Performing Arts from 1949 to 1981. Little is known of her early life, but Malinka studied ballet with Anton Dolin, Leon Danelian, Bronislava Nijinska, and Edward Caton, among others. She also studied modern dance, theater dance, and ethnic dance with Hanya Holm, Agnes De Mille, Bhupesh Guha, Katherine Dunham, Pearl Primus, and Frederico Rey.
